Since opening our first plant-based eatery more than 35 years ago, IKU has nourished and healed our customers with simple plant-based meals that bring balance and vitality to their lives and taste buds. Our goal has always been to inspire and empower as many people as possible to eat well without harming the planet.
Thanks to our innovative vision, delicious vegan dishes and the support of our community, we’ve stepped beyond the storefront to become an online delivery service that brings a whole new level of ease and accessibility to IKU.
What does plant-based mean?
A plant-based diet means eating mostly plant foods with minimal fake or artificial ingredients. Some plant-based eaters still consume animal products, so it’s considered more flexible than being vegan or vegetarian, instead focusing on nutrient-rich wholefoods. That said, all IKU meals and products are 100% vegan.
Is IKU healthy?
“Healthy” can be subjective, but we like to think so. Since IKU started, we’ve studied how different cultures have eaten sustainably for thousands of years and based our menus on balancing the energetic properties of foods. Each of our meals contains a balance of protein, vitamins, minerals and fibre. All of our ingredients are plant-based, free from artificial nonsense and rich in nutrients.
Can I choose my meals?
Of course! We have a menu of more than 50 vegan meals and snacks to choose from, so we’re sure you’ll find something you love. If you’d rather we did the decision-making for you, we also have a range of curated meal sets to suit a range of nutritional needs.
How long do the meals last?
Fresh meals and snacks will last between 3—11 days in the fridge from the day of delivery. Our fresh, ready to eat salads have a shorter shelf life and will arrive with 4 days Use By. Our ready to heat meals typically have 11 days shelf life and our pies and tarts have 8 days shelf life. Our ready to cook mushroom products have 18 days shelf life.
Each of our products has a use-by date label, so make sure you check them when your order arrives. If you have any issues with the freshness of your meals, please let us know via info@eatiku.com.au.
How do I heat my meals?
From the fridge, take your meal out of the cardboard sleeve and peel the film back slightly. Remove any inner pots from the tray then microwave on high for 2—3 minutes until piping hot. Stir through and reheat for longer if you need to, otherwise enjoy!
How do I heat them from frozen?
Our meals are prepared fresh and designed to be kept in the fridge but we get that this isn’t always an option. If heating from frozen, follow the steps above but heat for 5—6 minutes or until piping hot.
Note: Not all foods are freezer-friendly, so please keep your salads and puddings in the fridge only.
What if I don’t have a microwave?
Each IKU meal is tinkered until it’s at its best when heated up in a microwave, so this really is our recommended heating method. You can, however, heat your meal in the oven or in a non-stick pan on the stove if you need to. Our trays are microwave safe, but they will melt in the oven or on the stove, so please transfer your meal to an appropriate dish first.

Logistics
Where are your meals made?
All of our meals are made in our plant-based production kitchen in Sydney.
What kind of allergies and dietaries do you cater to?
All of our meals are vegan and made on a site free from any animal products. You can see a summary of allergens and ingredients when you click on any meal on our website, so please check this carefully before ordering. Despite offering a number of allergen-free meals, our facility does handle sesame, tree nuts, peanuts, gluten and soy, so we can’t guarantee trace-free meals.
What do I do with the packaging?
All of our packaging is 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable. As part of our commitment to the planet, we are working to achieve entirely compostable packaging but, in the meantime, please check the instructions on each meal to see how to best dispose of your packaging.
Is your packaging BPA-free?
Absolutely. All of your meals come in BPA-free, microwave-safe containers that are either compostable or recyclable.
How do you keep your food so deliciously fresh?
Our orders can withstand two full days of shipment and remain fresh for another 8—12 hours after delivery due to a combination of custom insulation, non-toxic ice packs and specially modified atmospheric packaging. The modification process removes almost all the oxygen from your order to slow down the speed of oxidation reactions, meaning your food can stay safer for longer without the use of preservatives. It actually improves the shelf life of fresh ingredients by 200% or more compared to air-sealed packaging.
How many meals fit in one box?
Total amount of meals that fit into one box will vary depending on the products you order. Typically we can fit up to 14 meals in to a box.
